Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled an extensive plan for infrastructure enhancements aimed at improving traffic management, alleviating congestion, and boosting road safety throughout vital regions of the emirate.
Dubai is set to expand the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station; here’s what to expect
In alignment with its comprehensive strategy to optimize the road network and accommodate the increasing population in the city, the RTA is set to implement temporary traffic detours, build new bridges and tunnels, and improve significant intersections.
Temporary Traffic Diversion on Al Qudra Road
From June 22, 2025, the RTA will enforce a temporary traffic diversion at the Arabian Ranches junction on Al Qudra Road, anticipated to last approximately five months. This change is part of a bridge construction initiative aimed at alleviating congestion and enhancing the efficiency of the intersection.
As part of this diversion, the traffic signal at the junction of Al Qudra Road and the connecting road to Dubai Studio City will be dismantled. Traffic will be redirected to establish a smooth pathway between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.
Moreover, two new U-turns without signals will be constructed to foster fluid traffic movement and decrease wait times.
The RTA encourages drivers to plan their routes in advance, leave early, and avoid peak traffic hours during this diversion to enhance their travel experience.
Improvements at Major Intersections in Jumeirah and Al Mina
In a significant infrastructure achievement, the RTA has completed enhancements at the intersections of Jumeirah Street and Al Mina Street with Sheikh Rashid Street. This undertaking is a segment of a larger effort to diminish traffic delays in central areas and improve travel efficiency in various directions.
The revamped intersections now feature a network of bridges and tunnels stretching over 13 kilometers, designed to accommodate more than one million residents in the vicinity. These upgrades are expected to increase vehicle capacity from 6,400 to 24,000 cars per hour, a nearly fourfold increment.
Travel times along this corridor are also projected to decrease significantly, from 32 minutes to just 12 minutes, thus enhancing connectivity and the overall commuting experience within Dubai’s coastal regions.
Revitalization of Al Jamayel Street
In keeping with its goal of a smoothly interconnected Dubai, the RTA has initiated the redevelopment of Al Jamayel Street, formerly known as Garn Al Sabkha Street. The road spans seven kilometers, connecting vital residential and commercial areas such as Jumeirah Lakes Towers, The Gardens, and Al Furjan.
This initiative aims to improve road efficiency along the service routes adjacent to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, one of the busiest transport corridors in Dubai. By enhancing surface intersections and expanding critical thoroughfares, the RTA intends to facilitate mobility for residents and daily commuters alike.
The upgrades will include the construction of four new bridges, spanning a collective distance of 2,874 meters, which are expected to elevate road capacity to 17,600 vehicles per hour, thereby significantly decreasing congestion during peak periods.
Projected reductions in travel time are as follows:
- From Al Jamayel Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road: reduced from 20 to 12 minutes
- From Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Street: reduced from 21 to 7 minutes
