Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, engaged with leaders from prominent space startups in the UAE to promote the private sector’s role in enhancing the nation’s space economy.
As Chairman of the UAE’s Supreme Space Council, Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the necessity of investing for the long term, fostering innovation, and encouraging strategic partnerships between public and private entities to solidify the UAE’s status as a key player in the global space arena.
He remarked, “The private sector is spearheading the space initiatives in the UAE, showcasing the advanced maturity of national investments cultivated over the past thirty years.”
This meeting was part of a wider national strategy aimed at bolstering a high-tech, knowledge-based economy, with space exploration positioned as a catalyst for sustainable growth.
Executives from a variety of UAE-based companies participated, including those focusing on satellite technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, robotics, and launch systems. Notable attendees included representatives from 4EI, Oryx Space, Marlan Space, Aspire Space Technology, and Aliensense.
During the discussions, participants provided updates on their business strategies, current projects, and ambitions for expansion both locally and globally. Key topics included enhancing cooperation with governmental bodies and increasing investments in the rapidly expanding space sector.
The UAE is Prepared to Boost Private Sector Engagement in Space
According to Dr. Hamdullah Mohib, CEO of Marlan Space, “The UAE has established a dynamic regulatory environment and state-of-the-art infrastructure that nurture ongoing private investments.”
Participants also acknowledged various governmental initiatives, such as the Space Economic Zones Programme, designed to attract capital, talent, and cutting-edge technology.
Senior officials at the meeting included Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education and Secretary-General of the Supreme Space Council, along with startup founders and CEOs from various sectors within the UAE.
In recent years, the UAE has significantly enhanced its footprint in the global space industry through prominent missions and investments, while increasingly redirecting its efforts towards creating a commercial ecosystem that empowers local entrepreneurs and forges international collaborations.
