Dubai Municipality has successfully finalized a Dhs277 million project to develop a sewage and rainwater drainage system in Nad Al Sheba 3, which encompasses 340 hectares and is designed to serve up to 300 plots of land.
This initiative is in line with the strategic objectives of the emirate to strengthen infrastructure resilience.
The project is a key component of two significant programs: the Dhs30 billion ‘Tasreef’ initiative focused on rainwater drainage and the Dhs80 billion upgrade of the sewage system.
It aims to improve public health, foster environmental sustainability, and enhance operational efficiency while preparing for future climate challenges.
Engineer Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, director general of Dubai Municipality, stated that the project aligns with Dubai’s ambition to excel globally in infrastructure and sustainability. “Finalizing the Nad Al Sheba 3 project marks an important milestone in connecting all regions of Dubai to a comprehensive sewage and rainwater drainage system, ensuring the emirate’s preparedness for climate challenges over the next century,” he remarked.
The sewage network extends 24 kilometers, featuring pipeline diameters ranging from 200 to 800 millimeters, along with 11 kilometers of residential connections that integrate homes and properties into the primary system.
Rainwater Management and Drainage Project
For effective rainwater management, an advanced pumping station has been installed with a capacity of 4,000 liters per second, alongside a 31-kilometer gravity-fed drainage pipeline network, with diameters varying between 250 and 1,500 millimeters. This infrastructure is aimed at reducing flood risks and ensuring system reliability during heavy rainfall events.
Bin Ghalita highlighted Dubai Municipality’s dedication to embracing cutting-edge technologies and intelligent engineering solutions to enhance service reliability and the quality of life. “By implementing these advanced technologies and smart strategies, we strive to boost operational efficiency and solidify Dubai’s position as one of the world’s premier cities for sophisticated infrastructure,” he added.
The Nad Al Sheba 3 project is structured to ensure long-term maintenance efficiency and uphold environmental sustainability, furthering Dubai’s vision to become a global benchmark for intelligent and resilient urban development.
