As Dubai prepares for its annual Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) shopping festival, recent insights from Checkout.com indicate robust growth in digital commerce. There have been notable spikes in online expenditures during the 2024 festival, with even stronger performance anticipated for 2025.

Checkout.com reports that daily digital transactions in the UAE increased by 25% year-on-year during the 2024 DSS. Additionally, customers are spending more per transaction, with average purchase amounts rising by 16%. The company’s processing volumes in the UAE also climbed by 44% compared to the previous year, indicating growing consumer confidence in digital payments and a trend toward online shopping during significant seasonal events.

Consumer Spending Trends

Analyzing the transaction data reveals notable shifts in consumer buying habits. Categories such as home décor, leisure activities, and educational materials experienced substantial growth, as residents took advantage of DSS promotions to enhance their homes, engage in local family experiences, and get ready for the new school year. The demand for toys and sports equipment surged as parents sought to keep their children entertained throughout the summer. Moreover, the automotive sector saw increased digital activity due to season-specific discounts on vehicle purchases and services.

These trends are consistent with findings from Checkout.com’s forthcoming report, which indicates that 62% of consumers in the UAE intend to increase their online shopping in the upcoming year. Additionally, 44% of these shoppers reported that they now explore physical stores while simultaneously comparing prices and options online.

Given the year-on-year growth, we anticipate even more record-breaking figures for 2025.”

As the UAE maintains its position as the leader in digital commerce adoption across the region, the summer season is becoming a crucial engagement period for merchants looking to connect with a tech-savvy, convenience-oriented consumer base.
