A national campaign aimed at enhancing the health of senior citizens was launched in Fujairah, themed “Stay Close… Your Presence is Health and Prevention.” The event attracted over 500 participants from the community, including senior citizens. Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, President of the UAE Bodybuilding and Strength Federation, and Mohammed Mulla, Vice Chairman of the Fujairah Charity Association, were among the notable attendees, along with Sheikh Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ambassador for Health and Longevity, and several officials and seniors from the emirate.
Ibtisam Harab Eissa, Head of the Public Health Program Support Department at the Ministry of Health and Prevention’s representative office in Fujairah, noted that the campaign saw participation from 26 local governmental and private entities. A range of health services were provided, including diagnostic and treatment services such as vaccinations, eye and blood pressure checks, and blood sugar screenings. Additionally, various health and nutritional consultations were offered, and preventive health supplies were distributed to support this important demographic in the community.
She further emphasized the commitment to creating an enriching and enjoyable experience for senior citizens, highlighting an organized workshop on perfumes and incense involving productive families from the Gharas Social Empowerment Center. The event also featured live cooking demonstrations, competitions, and cash prizes, alongside folkloric performances by traditional music groups. The active participation of this age group adds depth to the initiative, contributing to better health indicators and fostering a cultural shift within the community toward viewing aging as a period filled with activity and contribution. This aligns with the UAE’s goals of enhancing social and health sustainability, marking this campaign as a positive step in promoting the health and well-being of senior citizens and nurturing a more caring and aware society among all its members.
