Abdullah Bin Zayed and the President of the United Nations Discuss Strengthening Cooperation

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Othman Ghazali, President of the Comoros, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During their meeting, Sheikh Abdullah conveyed regards from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. He expressed their wishes for further progress and prosperity for the Comoros and its friendly people.

In return, President Othman Ghazali conveyed his regards to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with his wishes for continued prosperity and success for the UAE and its people.

During the discussion, a variety of topics listed on the agenda for the 80th session of the General Assembly were surveyed. They also addressed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas, including economic, commercial, investment, and developmental sectors.

Both sides reviewed regional and international developments of mutual interest and exchanged perspectives on them.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to establishing robust and prosperous relations with the Comoros, which would contribute to supporting shared developmental priorities and beneficial outcomes for both nations’ citizens.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State.

Additionally, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held separate meetings in New York with several foreign ministers from countries participating in the 80th session of the General Assembly.

He engaged in discussions with Gerardo Miethe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Argentina, Justin Tkatchenko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea, Carlos Ramiro Martinez, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Maka Bouchouirichvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Alexandra Hill Tinoco, Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, and Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Secretary-General of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

During these meetings, they discussed various issues on the agenda of the General Assembly and explored opportunities for joint cooperation within international organizations to support global sustainable development goals.

They also examined ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and partnerships across multiple domains, such as economic, commercial, investment, educational, food security, health, culture, as well as artificial intelligence, advanced technology, renewable energy, and climate matters.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized the UAE’s support for constructive and responsible international cooperation and multilateral efforts to tackle shared challenges, laying foundations for peace and stability within societies and achieving sustainable development for people.

The meetings also covered current developments in the regional and international landscape, particularly concerning the Middle East and its implications on global peace and security.

In a related context, he met with Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, to explore ways to enhance collaboration and coordination between the UAE and the program amid ongoing humanitarian challenges in various regions worldwide.

The meetings were attended by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State; Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs; and other officials.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also held discussions with Jeremiah Manele, Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands.

They explored various aspects of the bilateral relations between the UAE and the Solomon Islands, as well as ways to enhance cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations and their peoples.

Additionally, they covered several topics on the agenda for the 80th session of the General Assembly.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan reiterated the UAE’s commitment to forging distinguished relationships with the Solomon Islands and seizing all available opportunities to foster further development and growth in bilateral cooperation to meet the developmental goals of both countries.
