Abu Dhabi Police: 93% Benefit from Urgent Alerts for Safe Driving

A recent survey conducted by the Security Media Department of the Abu Dhabi Police revealed that 93% of participants support the implementation of urgent notifications aimed at promoting safe driving during adverse weather conditions in Abu Dhabi, such as rain, fog, dust storms, and traffic congestion. The survey was conducted in both Arabic and English on their social media platforms.

The results indicated that a significant portion of the public has engaged with and benefited from the “urgent alerts” issued by the Abu Dhabi Police. These alerts are sent out promptly in several languages to inform drivers and road users about changing weather conditions and traffic situations in the emirate.

Alerts and Conditions

Colonel Engineer Saeed Abdullah Al Rashidi, Director of the Safe City Administration within the Traffic Affairs Sector, explained that these urgent notifications are designed to alert drivers about unusual weather and traffic circumstances, including fog, rainfall, dust, reduced visibility, and heavy traffic. The alerts also provide alternative route suggestions for drivers.

He noted that the weather monitoring system consists of eight systems: electronic guidance screens, an early warning system (“warning messages”), traffic signs (to alert drivers to adjust speeds in low visibility conditions), automated speed control systems, urgent notifications via social media, and public transport systems (to restrict the movement of buses and trucks during fog). Additionally, emergency alerts include light flashes and data from the National Weather Center and visibility sensors, all of which have successfully reduced serious accidents and fatalities during adverse weather since their implementation in 2018.

Furthermore, Colonel Al Rashidi emphasized that the “urgent alerts” play a crucial role in enhancing road safety in the emirate and increasing traffic awareness among drivers, particularly in situations that require quick and proactive dissemination of information to the public. This allows sufficient time for road users to take necessary precautions to minimize the likelihood of traffic accidents and their severe consequences.

Major Khalifa Abdullah Al Obaidly, Director of the Social Media Center in the Security Media Department, stated that the public’s engagement with the survey results highlights the community’s response to the media messages and regular campaigns shared by the Abu Dhabi Police on various topics.
