Abu Dhabi Police Recovers 140 Million Dirhams for Fraud Victims in a Short Time

The Economic Crimes Division of Abu Dhabi Police has effectively addressed 15,642 cases and recovered approximately 140 million dirhams for victims in a short timeframe. This announcement was made during a press conference held by the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police, where they launched the sixth edition of their awareness campaign, “Stay Cautious.”

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to bolster digital security and protect community members from modern fraud techniques, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, various police leaderships, the Cybersecurity Council, Abu Dhabi Media, Abu Dhabi First Bank, and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank. The campaign will run for three months.

Major General Mohamed Suhail Al Rashidi, Director of the Criminal Security Sector, stated that the launch of this campaign aligns with Abu Dhabi Police’s commitment to raise public awareness about cyber crimes. He emphasized that the campaign is in harmony with the UAE Vision 2071 and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, focusing on fostering a culture of cybersecurity and building trust in credible security-related media content.

He elaborated that the campaign includes a series of events and educational programs targeting various community groups through social media platforms, media outlets, community councils, universities, and schools. He stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among relevant entities to ensure that the educational messages reach the widest possible audience.

The campaign will highlight the latest cyber fraud methods, such as phishing links, deceptive calls, fake prize messages, fraudulent shopping sites, urging the public to exercise caution and refrain from disclosing personal or banking information to untrustworthy entities.

He noted that collaboration with strategic partners from governmental institutions, telecommunications companies, and the banking and media sectors enhances the shared efforts and expertise in cybersecurity, which strengthens the community’s ability to face emerging digital challenges.

Colonel Rashid Khalaf Al Dhaheri, Director of the Criminal Investigation and Investigation Directorate, explained that this sixth version of the “Stay Cautious” campaign focuses on several specialized security themes aimed at combating new cyber crimes, including phone scams and phishing links.

Additionally, it addresses real estate fraud, fake job offers, caution against downloading remote access programs, fraudulent online advertisements, bogus auctions, and fictitious investments in cryptocurrencies, as well as warnings against accepting friend requests from unknown individuals on social media platforms.

He indicated that these themes represent actual patterns of cyber fraud targeting both individuals and organizations, and through this campaign, Abu Dhabi Police aims to educate the community about modern fraud methods and preventive measures by providing clear and simplified warnings and guidelines, thereby enhancing digital security and protecting the community from online threats.

Abu Dhabi Police continues to embrace innovation in security and awareness campaigns, reinforcing community trust in the digital security system, contributing to achieving the highest levels of safety and stability in cyberspace.

Lieutenant Colonel Saif Ali Al Jabri, Deputy Director of the Community Police Department, stated that the campaign exemplifies the vision of the UAE leadership in creating a secure financial environment fortified against electronic threats, highlighting its critical role in protecting individuals’ finances.

Abu Dhabi Police is committed to broadening the scope of awareness to include all nationalities, providing information in Arabic and other languages, aimed at educating them about necessary preventive measures to shield them from fraud techniques. He emphasized that community awareness constitutes the first line of defense against cyber crimes.

Major Ali Fares Al Nuaimi, Head of the Cyber Crime Prevention Section, asserted that Abu Dhabi Police is continuously developing quality initiatives that keep pace with rapid technological advancements.

They support the digital security framework through the Criminal Information Center for Cyber Crime Prevention, which focuses on monitoring and analyzing emerging cyber crimes and taking proactive measures to mitigate their spread.

He highlighted that the Communication Center embodies the concept of effective partnership between security and financial sectors and is one of the pioneering initiatives that reflects Abu Dhabi Police’s commitment to strengthening digital and financial safety systems. He also stressed the importance of community members promptly reporting incidents, as it has a direct impact on the success of recovery operations and early interventions.
