Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, welcomed the decision of Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Norway to impose sanctions on two extremist ministers in the Israeli government for their continuous incitement to violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
Aboul Gheit stated that this decision is an important step towards holding accountable officials in the Israeli government who have been involved in clear incitement to violence and have reinforced the targeting of Palestinians in the West Bank by settlers with impunity.
He emphasized that imposing sanctions on the ministers reveals to the world, including the Israeli people themselves, the extent of the crimes committed by government officials steeped in extremism, leading to war crimes and widespread violations of international humanitarian law in both the West Bank and Gaza.
Aboul Gheit pointed out that the decision by the five countries is an important initial step towards restoring the international balance in addressing war crimes against Palestinians and taking practical measures towards accountability for those involved in violence, incitement to racial cleansing, and genocide.
