The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, summoned his ambassador to Mexico and demanded that the Mexican government clarify comments regarding an intercepted plane allegedly carrying cocaine that was said to have departed from El Salvador.
Bukele characterized the statements made by Mexican Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch as “false” in a post on X, pointing to what he referred to as the supposed flight path of the aircraft. He also mentioned that the three individuals arrested along with the plane were Mexican nationals.
Bukele stated, “El Salvador does not provide refuge for criminals and does not tolerate drug trafficking. We have never done this, and we will not do so now.”
As of late Wednesday evening, it was unclear whether Ambassador Rosa Delmy Canas had left Mexico.
