Syria Announces Reconciliation Roadmap with Support from the U.S. and Jordan
On Tuesday, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaybani unveiled a roadmap aimed at fostering reconciliation in the predominantly Druze province of Sweida, which has experienced violence in July. This initiative comes with support from both the United States and Jordan.
During a press conference alongside his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, and U.S. envoy Tom Barak, al-Shaybani stated, “The Syrian government has established a clear roadmap for action that emphasizes justice and aims to build trust.” He elaborated that this plan includes several measures such as holding accountable those who have harmed civilians, providing compensation to victims, and initiating a process for internal reconciliation.
Ayman Safadi, the Jordanian Foreign Minister, reaffirmed that the only party seeking to divide Syria is Israel. Meanwhile, U.S. envoy Tom Barak expressed optimism about the agreement, highlighting that the Syrian government is taking historic steps forward.
