Doors of the Shops: A Narrative Journey Through the History of Oman’s Tales

French author Fabien Hirban has unveiled her latest novel, “The Doors of the Shops,” coinciding with her participation in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. The narrative delves into the significance of the Omani dagger, a symbol of the Sultanate and an integral part of Omani identity.

Hirban remarked, “In ‘The Doors of the Shops,’ we explore Dr. ‘B’’s anguish over the loss of an Omani dagger, a treasured family heirloom. This loss has become a profound tragedy for him, akin to losing a part of himself.”

The book narrates Dr. ‘B’’s relentless quest for understanding and contemplation, as he navigates the complexities of life—interweaving elements of fire, earth, sky, and water—making this pursuit his top priority.

This work serves as an intriguing journey through Oman, set against a backdrop of enchanting and surreal locations. Characters within the story encounter one another, forge connections, share their tales, and face noble challenges together.

The novel intricately blends literary imagination with an Eastern storytelling tradition, enriched by fragrant incense and the rhythmic cadence of tales originating from Zanzibar.
