As part of its summer awareness campaign titled “Explore Broader Horizons of Smart Choices This Summer,” the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has encouraged residential customers to activate the “Out of Home” feature prior to their travels. This initiative aims to ensure ongoing efficiency in electricity and water consumption and to safeguard resources during their absence. By enabling this feature through their accounts on DEWA’s website or mobile app and selecting a service activation period, customers can monitor their consumption remotely while away. This setup allows them to receive daily and weekly usage reports via email, facilitating prompt action to minimize waste.
The authority advises customers to ensure all lights are turned off before departing, utilize timers for garden lights and home exterior lighting, and shut off water valves. In addition, it emphasizes the importance of regular checks for potential leaks to conserve resources. DEWA also underscores the necessity of hiring qualified technicians for routine maintenance of electrical and water installations. Through the “DEWA Store” available in its mobile app, customers can find contact information for service providers in case of internal faults within their premises, along with the opportunity to access exclusive discounts for DEWA customers.
DEWA further encourages users to take advantage of the digital services and features available through its “Smart Life” initiative to reduce waste. This initiative allows customers to track their bill details and tariff categories, as well as monitor electricity and water usage on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis via a dedicated dashboard. The “Consumption Assessment Tool” offers an interactive questionnaire to help users analyze their consumption patterns and identify opportunities for improvement. Following the assessment, customers receive a detailed report with tailored suggestions for enhancing efficiency. Additionally, the “High Water Consumption Notification” service sends immediate alerts when unusual usage is detected post-meter reading, thus enabling early leak detection.
This awareness campaign, launched in June, is designed to inform customers about the innovative tools offered by DEWA to empower them to proactively and digitally monitor their consumption, adopting a more efficient and sustainable lifestyle, particularly during the summer season.
