Dubai Electricity Integrates Artificial Intelligence Technologies Into Its Operational Processes

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed a high-level delegation led by Ziad Jamal, General Manager of Google Cloud for the UAE, Levant, and North Africa.

The meeting was attended by Marwan Bin Haider, Executive Vice President for Innovation and the Future, Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President for Business Development and Excellence, and Mohammed Bin Suleiman, CEO of Moro Integrated Data Solutions.

DEWA announced a strategic partnership with Google Cloud to integrate generative artificial intelligence in its core operational processes. Utilizing Google Cloud’s NotebookLM technology, the authority has launched a series of AI-powered podcasts, achieving remarkable speed in production, consistent quality, and multilingual capabilities.

This initiative highlights DEWA’s leadership in adopting generative AI and its ambition to become the world’s first fully AI-driven utility service provider.

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer stated: “In line with the visionary leadership’s goal for the UAE to be a global leader in AI adoption, we are collaborating with Google Cloud to weave generative AI into our operational framework.”

This initiative aligns with the National AI Strategy 2031, which aims to position the UAE among the top countries at the forefront of AI by investing in its youth and key industries.

He added, “We have a comprehensive plan to transform DEWA into the world’s first utility service entirely based on AI by integrating advanced generative AI technologies into our core operations, ensuring we stay abreast of digital advancements and global transformations.”

The NotebookLM technology from Google Cloud has enabled us to generate high-quality content rapidly and at an unprecedented scale, without the need for additional resources, unlocking new avenues for sustainable growth and enhancing innovation. His Excellency noted that with NotebookLM, DEWA has achieved over a 99% reduction in production costs and a more than 95% increase in execution speed compared to traditional podcast production methods.

Ziad Jamal, General Manager of Google Cloud in the UAE, Levant, and North Africa, expressed: “We are extremely proud to partner with DEWA, a true leader in leveraging generative AI to enhance its operations.”

He elaborated that DEWA’s achievements using NotebookLM, which enabled unprecedented speed and scale in content creation with significant cost reductions, underscore the immense potential of AI in delivering tangible business value.
