The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority has announced that over the past eight years, it has successfully produced nine generations of Emirati queen bees, totaling 18,692 queens.
During this period, 14,461 of these queens have been distributed to local beekeepers. Furthermore, the authority noted that in March and April of this year alone, more than 2,100 queens from the tenth generation of Emirati bees were produced.
This initiative is part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to enhance the Emirati bee breed, aiming to ensure the sustainability of beekeeping within the country and reducing reliance on imported bee colonies. Additionally, this year, it has distributed 1,350 queens from the tenth generation to 39 beekeepers across the nation.
The authority highlighted its commitment to sustainably supporting the breeding and production of queen bees, with plans to reach a target of 5,300 queens from the tenth generation. This includes the production of 2,300 queens during the spring season, from March to May, and 3,000 queens in the fall season, from October to November of this year.
