Emirates Studies Illuminates the Role of Individuals in Community Service at Abu Dhabi Book Fair

The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research hosted a discussion session titled “Year of Community: How Individuals Contribute to Their Societies?” as part of its participation in the 34th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which runs until May 5 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC). The session was led by Dr. Sultan Mohammed Al Nuaimi, the Director General of the Center, and featured a special guest, Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai.

Dr. Al Nuaimi began the session by acknowledging the Center’s engagement with the announcement by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, declaring 2025 as the “Year of Community.” This initiative includes a variety of activities and events, such as the discussion sessions at the book fair.

During his opening remarks, Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan emphasized the importance of education in instilling values of loyalty, belonging, and love for the nation. He pointed out that a citizen’s commitment to performing their job to the best of their ability is a reflection of their loyalty. He stressed the urgent need to instill these values in young people through different educational stages and called for national projects to promote teamwork and collective efforts.

Lieutenant General Khalfan described loyalty to wise leadership as essential for raising the flag of the UAE and reinforcing the numerous achievements accomplished through a comprehensive visionary approach from the leadership. He noted that the unique development model of the UAE has created a positive image globally.

He further asserted the importance of cultivating a constructive individual who is engaged thoughtfully in community service, transitioning from a mindset of “I” to “we.” He highlighted that education plays a crucial role in preparing individuals to fulfill their duties towards their communities and to participate in their development and progress.

Lieutenant General Khalfan stressed the critical role of the family as the core unit of society in this transition, underscoring the need for empowering youth to actively engage in all sectors of the comprehensive development taking place in the UAE. He also remarked on the importance of maintaining a positive behavior among UAE citizens abroad to enhance the nation’s image.

He emphasized the significance of active involvement from residents of the UAE, who are an integral part of the community’s fabric, as consistently acknowledged by the wise leadership during various occasions.

At the conclusion of the discussion, Lieutenant General Khalfan urged Emirati sociologists to study any negative phenomena that may arise within the community and to address them through frameworks overseen by national institutions. He called on all individuals to participate in campaigns that contribute to strengthening community bonds and promoting a culture of volunteerism and social responsibility.
