Emirati Student Develops Innovative Model for Space Payment System

An inspiring model of academic ambition and excellence in advanced space technologies has been presented by Emirati student Hamda Al Ali.

She has developed an innovative model for an electric plasma propulsion system, named “Spherical Tokamak Propulsion,” which is considered one of the promising methods in space propulsion technologies, offering efficiency that surpasses traditional chemical systems by several orders of magnitude.

Hamda is currently pursuing her doctoral studies at Imperial College London in the field of aerospace engineering, with her research focusing on designing and developing electric plasma propulsion systems for spacecraft, a highly precise and modern scientific discipline.

Since childhood, Hamda has been fascinated by the challenges of physics in the realm of space, which motivated her to specialize in advanced propulsion technologies for spacecraft. This field significantly contributes to the advancement of space science and enhances the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of space missions.

She stresses that the significance of her specialization extends beyond space exploration; it also reflects the nation’s vision for a knowledge-based and sustainable economy, bolstering technological independence and advancing scientific research in ways that benefit humanity.

Hamda aspires to apply the knowledge and experiences gained during her academic journey to help establish a leading and innovative national infrastructure that enhances the country’s standing in space exploration and fulfills its global ambitions in this vital sector. Her goal includes training national talents capable of launching satellites and completing space missions that serve humanity.

Due to her exceptional academic achievements, Hamda has been awarded the “Amelia Earhart Fellowship for 2024,” a prestigious recognition given to outstanding female researchers in aviation and space fields.

She also received the 2025 Doctoral Research Award from the Institute of Engineering and Technology in acknowledgment of her accomplishments in developing electric propulsion technologies for spacecraft. Hamda encourages her peers about to embark on a study abroad journey to hold on to their dreams and work diligently to achieve them.

She notes that studying abroad is not merely an academic journey, but a life experience that hones personal skills and enhances a sense of responsibility, emphasizing that every Emirati student abroad is a representative of their country, carrying its name and is obligated to represent it well.

Hamda’s research has attracted the attention of prestigious international organizations involved in space propulsion and nuclear fusion technologies, providing her with opportunities for collaborative research with leading global entities and opening wide avenues for contributions to space exploration technologies from an applied and interdisciplinary perspective.
