Iran has announced that it conducted an attack on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Loud explosions were reported across Doha following Qatar’s decision to close its airspace in response to recent events in the region after the American strikes on Iran, with Tehran vowing to retaliate.
Explosions were also heard in Lusail, located north of Doha. Axios reported that an Israeli official stated Iran launched six missiles targeting Al Udeid.
The Qatari Minister of Defense stated, “Our air defenses intercepted a missile attack on Al Udeid.” Subsequently, a Qatari military official revealed that Iran had initiated a second attack with 12 missiles, of which 11 were intercepted.
Two American officials indicated that there were no reports of casualties or injuries among U.S. troops following the Iranian strike on Al Udeid. The officials, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that the attack was carried out using short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.
Additionally, CNBC reported that a U.S. administration official stated President Donald Trump was actively monitoring the developments in the operations room alongside the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
After the strike, Trump mentioned that Iran provided advance notice to the U.S. before launching the missiles, which helped prevent any loss of life. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote:
“I’m pleased to report that no Americans were harmed, and there was minimal damage. Most importantly, they refrained from all urgent attacks, and we hope for no further hatred.”
He further added, “Perhaps Iran can now move towards peace and harmony in the region, and I will vigorously encourage Israel to do the same.” Trump also expressed gratitude to Iran for the early notification prior to the attack.
### Al Udeid Only
A U.S. military official indicated that no Iranian attacks were detected against any U.S. military base other than the one in Qatar. He noted that Al Udeid was not affected. Military sources reported that air defense systems were activated at the Al Asad Air Base in Iraq due to concerns about a potential attack.
A senior White House official stated prior to the Iranian attacks that the White House and the Department of Defense were closely monitoring potential threats to Al Udeid. The official confirmed, “The White House and the Pentagon are aware of the potential threats to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar and are watching them closely.
