Iraqi Prime Minister Affirms Support for Political Consensus in Lebanon
In a press conference held in Baghdad, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani reiterated his government’s backing for political unity within Lebanon. This statement was made during his joint appearance with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who is currently visiting the Iraqi capital.
Al-Sudani condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory and emphasized Iraq’s commitment to supporting internal political consensus in Lebanon. He also highlighted the regional approval for the Arab Fund initiative proposed by Iraq, noting that Iraq has contributed $20 million to the fund aimed at rebuilding Lebanon.
In response, President Aoun underscored Lebanon’s efforts to maintain civil peace and uphold state sovereignty without engaging in conflicts or alienating any party. He stressed that during this critical phase, it is essential for all parties to affirm Lebanon’s sovereignty over its entire territory, reaffirming that the preservation of civil peace is a fundamental pillar for building a just and strong state.
