On Sunday, EU foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas stated that any agreement between Washington and Moscow aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine must include Ukraine and the European Union. She announced plans to convene a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday to discuss the next steps.
Kallas noted, “The United States has the power to compel Russia to engage in serious negotiations. Any deal between the U.S. and Russia must encompass Ukraine and the EU, as it pertains to the security of Ukraine and all of Europe.”
U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
Kallas emphasized that “as we strive for a sustainable and just peace, international law is clear: all temporarily occupied territories belong to Ukraine.”
She added, “The agreement must not serve as a springboard for further aggression against Ukraine and the transatlantic alliance (NATO) and Europe.”
Kallas also mentioned that ministers will address the situation in Gaza during their discussions.
