On Monday, the seventh annual event focused on documentation and archiving commenced, organized by the Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage in Dubai. This year’s session sees participation from 38 trainees representing various governmental bodies from both within and outside the UAE.
The theme for this year revolves around “International Standard for Archival Description ISAD(G) and Artificial Intelligence: A Partnership for Building Tools for Accessing Institutional and National Memory.” The objective is to enhance the scientific understanding of archival description principles and to explore the potential integration of artificial intelligence in developing research tools to access historical information.
The session began with a welcome speech from Dr. Mohammad Kamel Jad, the center’s director general, who emphasized the significance of the topics at hand and encouraged participants to take full advantage of the sessions offered.
Following that, Dr. Taha Muhammad Nour Abu Al-Khair, the academic supervisor for documents and archives, outlined the program for the first day, which included an introduction to the International Standard for Archival Description ISAD(G) and its importance in establishing a comprehensive database that paves the way for the application of artificial intelligence in document description and classification.
Representatives from several prominent institutions are taking part in the event, including the Dubai Historical Documents Center, the Department of Archaeology in Umm Al-Quwain, the Executive Council of Dubai, the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, the Sharjah Police Academy, the Sharjah Heritage Institute, the National Archives and Documents Authority of Oman, the Supreme Judiciary Council of Oman, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, the Sharjah Department of Social Services, the Military Museum and History Center in Abu Dhabi, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, and Wasl University.
