The international forces in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, have announced that the Lebanese army has deployed to over 120 locations in the southern region. In a statement released yesterday, they indicated that this deployment reinforces the authority of the state in accordance with UN Resolution 1701. UNIFIL noted that they are collaborating closely with the Lebanese army to restore stability and are assisting in strengthening its presence through patrols and training.
Last week, the UN forces emphasized their ongoing commitment to their mission under the Security Council resolution, affirming their efforts to help southern residents return to their homes safely.
It is important to mention that the ceasefire agreement, which was initiated on November 28 following intense clashes between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, called for a halt to hostilities.
The deployment of the Lebanese army in the south, supported by UN forces, along with the retreat of Hezbollah to the north of the Litani River, aims to ensure that weapons are held solely by the state, in addition to the withdrawal of Israeli troops.
