Lebanese Army Hints at Halting Cooperation with Ceasefire Monitoring Mechanism

The Lebanese Army Command has stated that Israel’s ongoing escalation of aggression may compel the military to suspend its collaboration with the ceasefire monitoring mechanism concerning site inspections.

In a statement released by the National News Agency of Lebanon, the army leadership clarified that this stance is a response to Israeli violations, which have escalated into “daily aggression.” The latest incidents involve attacks on populated areas in southern Beirut and the south, along with Israel’s refusal to engage with monitoring committee efforts aimed at preventing further assaults, which undermines both the committee’s and the army’s roles.

While reaffirming its full commitment to UN Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement, the Lebanese Army Command condemned the Israeli attacks, viewing them as attempts to destabilize the situation in Lebanon.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that the army will continue to carry out its duties to uphold the authority of the state and safeguard the security of Lebanon and its citizens with determination and resolve, in line with its national obligations.
