French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Ukraine on Saturday, emphasizing his intention to maintain close coordination with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European partners.
Macron revealed that he had discussions on this matter with President Zelensky, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the same day.
He stated, “The future of Ukraine cannot be determined without the Ukrainians, who have been fighting for their freedom and security for over three years now.” He also highlighted that Europeans must necessarily be part of the solution, as their security is at stake.
The President continued, “We remain determined to support Ukraine, working in a spirit of unity and building on the efforts made under the ‘Coalition of the Willing.'”
During a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, President Zelensky urged Europeans to take “clear steps” to establish a unified approach ahead of the upcoming summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday.
After the call, Zelensky shared on Telegram, “It is crucial to implement clear measures and coordinate at the highest levels between us and our partners.”
Zelensky emphasized that the Ukrainian people are fighting for their right to freedom and sovereignty, noting that even those who support Russia are aware of its actions against Ukraine. He asserted that Kyiv would not offer Moscow any concessions for its actions, stressing that the Ukrainian people deserve peace, but achieving a just peace requires a clear understanding from all international partners.
