Bayrou faced overwhelming defeat in the vote, with the tally reaching 364 votes against 194.
This political fallout stemmed from what appeared to be a major miscalculation on Bayrou’s part, as he advocated for public spending cuts to address France’s debt issues, expecting legislative support.
Instead, parliamentarians seized the opportunity presented by the vote to rally against Bayrou, the centrist politician who had been appointed by Macron in December.
