One Million Beneficiaries from UAE Water Projects in Tanzania

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Water Foundation, announced that the projects undertaken by the foundation in the United Republic of Tanzania have surpassed their initial goals thanks to the generous support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and currently, the number of beneficiaries from these initiatives has reached 1,024,000.

The projects executed by the Emirates Water Foundation, in collaboration with the Emirates Red Crescent, provide clean and safe drinking water to residents in various provinces, rural areas, and villages throughout Tanzania by drilling new boreholes and maintaining existing ones.

This announcement was made during the third meeting of the Emirates Water Foundation’s Board of Trustees for 2025, chaired by His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, with the presence of board members including Dr. Sultan Rashid Al Ketbi, Deputy Secretary-General for International Aid at the Emirates Red Crescent, Dr. Ibrahim Saeed Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University of Science and Technology, and Professor Ahmed Ali Al Raisi, Director of the United Arab Emirates University.

Also present were Engineer Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President for Production (Energy and Water) at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and Engineer Walid bin Salman, Executive Vice President for Business Development and Excellence at the same authority.

Additionally, Dr. Youssef Al Akkraf, Executive Vice President for Business Support and Human Resources at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Mohammed Abdulkarim Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of the Emirates Water Foundation, and Engineer Saud Aziz Ghaleb, Acting Secretary of the Council. During the meeting, the board discussed plans to launch the fifth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award in the last quarter of this year.

Innovative Technologies

The Emirates Water Foundation oversees this award, which has a total prize pool of one million dollars, aimed at encouraging innovative projects and technologies for water production, desalination, and purification using renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, hydropower, osmotic pressure, and geothermal energy.

His Excellency Al Tayer emphasized the foundation’s commitment to enhancing the United Arab Emirates’ position as a leader in humanitarian efforts globally.

He noted that the number of beneficiaries of the foundation’s projects has reached approximately 15 million individuals across 37 countries, with the implementation of sustainable water projects since the foundation’s establishment in 2015.

The Emirates Water Foundation strives to alleviate the suffering of communities most affected by the global water crisis while fostering innovation to find sustainable solutions to water scarcity issues. It collaborates with local and international bodies and organizations to implement humanitarian initiatives and developmental projects aimed at providing clean and safe water to millions who face water shortages.
