His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, chaired the third meeting of the Energy Council yesterday morning, with the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Head of the Oil Department, at the Ruler’s office.
During this meeting, the council reviewed various agenda items related to the energy sector in the Emirate of Sharjah. These included plans for the development of different fields within the energy sector and the formulation of public strategies and policies that aim to enhance projects in development while adhering to the highest international standards of sustainability and environmental preservation.
The council examined proposals for numerous future projects focused on solar energy, energy storage, and providing energy to data centers within the Emirate.
These initiatives contribute to sustainable development across various sectors. Additionally, the council was briefed on plans for the development of the Hudaybah field, which focuses on enhancing and diversifying energy projects in the Emirate, serving as a cornerstone for supporting development and diversifying energy sources.
The council also discussed a legislative proposal aimed at permitting electricity generation from rooftops on a consumer/producer level, as well as a project to convert waste into energy. These initiatives are crucial for providing clean energy and advancing various developmental and community projects within the vital energy sector.
Attendees at the meeting included Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmad Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Oil Department, Saeed Al Ghaith Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority, Waleed Al Saigh, Director General of the Central Finance Department, Hatem Muhammad Dhiab Al Mousa, Secretary-General of the Energy Council, and Khamis Abdullah Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of the Sharjah Oil Corporation.
