The Sharjah Libraries recently inaugurated the exhibit “Literary Beginnings” at Mall 06 in the Al Ghereina area. The event, which runs until May 4, is organized in collaboration with the Emirates Writers Union and is part of the programs celebrating the centennial of the first public library in the emirate.
The exhibition highlights the journeys of five prominent Emirati authors: Ahmad Amin Al Madani, Habib Al Sayegh, Maryam Jumaa Farraj, Ahmad Rashid Thani, and Salem Al Hatawi. It features their biographies and initial works, aiming to share their literary beginnings with the audience.
The exhibit also showcases their contributions to the cultural landscape of the UAE, reinforcing the presence of these inspiring figures in the nation’s literary memory while offering a model of reading, writing, and creativity for the younger generations.
A special section within the exhibit invites visitors to use an old typewriter to pen encouraging messages that promote reading, creating a personal and interactive experience that enhances the audience’s connection to literature.
Additionally, the exhibition includes a small cultural café that provides visitors with a comprehensive cultural experience, blending exploration, reflection, and enjoyment in a stimulating literary atmosphere.
Imane Bouchelibi, the director of Sharjah Libraries, stated that highlighting these writers and honoring their contributions serves as a reminder of their roles and achievements. She emphasized the importance of encouraging new generations to take initiative and engage in a sustainable knowledge project rooted in a rich history, shaping a future that we can be proud of alongside its pioneers.
