Sudanese Ambassador in the UAE: 185 Million Dirhams Spent by “Port Sudan Authority” in Its “Losing” Case Against the UAE

The Sudanese Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Abdel Rahman Sharfi, has stated that the decision by the Port Sudan Authority to file a case with the International Court of Justice in The Hague, which was recently dismissed, has resulted in a loss of 185 million dirhams for Sudan. This sum was spent to pursue a case against the UAE, despite the understanding that it was a losing endeavor.

Sharfi indicated that the Port Sudan Authority employs numerous advisors and specialists who recognize that initiating a lawsuit requires various conditions, including solid evidence to support any legal claims and ensuring that the court has jurisdiction over the matter. Despite this knowledge and the clear absence of those prerequisites, the authority insisted on proceeding with the case, driven by the agendas of the controlling faction associated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

The ambassador emphasized that the substantial financial resources allocated for the lawsuit highlight the Port Sudan Authority’s disregard for the plight of its citizens and the struggles of the wider Sudanese population. He suggested that it would have been more prudent for those funds to be redirected towards aiding and supporting the vulnerable and displaced members of the Sudanese community rather than squandered on a baseless legal claim.

Furthermore, he noted that the lawsuit and associated attempts to undermine the UAE are backed by groups connected to extremist organizations, including the Muslim Brotherhood, which are intent on damaging Sudan’s international relations, particularly with the UAE—a nation that has taken a firm stance against terrorism and extremism.

Ambassador Sharfi reiterated that these factions are systematically working to disrupt the relationship between the two nations using media and other channels, but without success, as evidenced by the rejection of the complaint against the UAE by the International Court of Justice. This denial has resulted in significant financial losses for Sudan, which could have been utilized to support its citizens during these challenging times.

He also affirmed the enduring bond of friendship and mutual respect between the peoples of the UAE and Sudan, which cannot be easily swayed by misleading accusations. The ambassador expressed deep gratitude for the humanitarian assistance and generous support extended by the UAE to the Sudanese people, particularly during the difficult conditions currently facing Sudan.

Additionally, Sharfi praised the honorable care provided to the Sudanese community in the UAE, which reflects the strong fraternal ties between the two nations. He noted that the community benefits from a supportive environment that meets their needs, including healthcare, residency grants, the cancellation of fines, education, and much more.
