Dr. Tasha York, a specialist in organizational psychology and a bestselling author, emphasized that resilience is one of the essential keys to successful leadership. She highlighted that it is not merely a secondary skill, but rather a secret weapon that aids in overcoming challenges and achieving sustainable results.
This insight was shared during a session titled “How Does a Leader Begin with Themselves?” at the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Forum. York focused on the crucial role that conscious leadership plays in navigating increasing pressures and making strategic decisions in rapidly changing and unpredictable environments.
York explained that resilience goes beyond merely enduring crises; it entails reinventing new ways to adapt and expanding the perspective on stress management to turn it into an opportunity for growth and excellence.
She noted that resilience is a central theme in the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which emphasizes positivity, optimism, shared responsibility, and transforming challenges into opportunities.
Additionally, she stated, “To succeed as leaders, we must embrace others and learn how to share these values and experiences, as a leader’s success is connected to the success of their team and the broader community.”
York expressed admiration for Dubai’s experience, affirming that it serves as a global model for fostering a positive energy that drives change and innovation.
She remarked, “Despite the chaos and pressures leaders may face around the world, Dubai has demonstrated that it is possible to combine ambition, resilience, and optimism to build a better future.”
In her discussion, the expert addressed the challenges present in modern work environments, referencing various studies that indicate a significant portion of employees in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries experience work-related stress. She stated, “Resilient leaders do not wait for crises but proactively initiate change and instill this culture within their teams and organizations to achieve lasting success.
