The Date Season in the UAE Brings Joyful Atmosphere to Festivals

The markets in Al Ain are witnessing a notable demand during the season of fresh dates in the UAE, bringing joy and enhancing the celebrations and auctions surrounding these delights. Local citizens and residents are seizing the chance to sample a variety of high-quality dates, particularly during the summer months when the green region of Al Ain and the other Emirates are graced with fresh produce. The popular “Nghal” variety, cultivated by local farms, became available at the beginning of June.

Several local farmers shared insights about the nutritional value of the date palm, although its spiritual significance holds even greater importance within Emirati society. Vendors at the fruit and vegetable markets in Al Ain highlighted that the flow of “Nghal” dates into their markets has significantly increased, thanks to abundant harvests from local farms.

Abdullah Al Kaabi, a researcher in Emirati heritage, noted the current competitive atmosphere in the fruit and vegetable markets, particularly for the delicious “Nghal” dates produced by local farms. Enthusiasts of these dates are keen on purchasing the best varieties, which are currently available at reasonable prices.

He highlighted the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s profound interest in date palms, emphasizing his relentless efforts to promote the cultivation and expansion of these trees. He personally supervised the planting of palms and other types of trees.

Another farmer, Abdul Rahman Al Shamisi, remarked that “Nghal” dates are distinguished by their appealing yellow color, shiny appearance, and delightful taste, all sourced from the green region of Al Ain. The markets provide local farmers with opportunities to market their diverse date products while encouraging them to expand the cultivation of quality varieties, thus increasing the economic benefits for families engaged in production and sales.

Farmer Ahmed Al Hafiti mentioned the abundance of date palms and various types of dates across the UAE, attributing this success to the availability of suitable water, care, fertilizers, and annual pruning practices.

Al Hafiti confirmed that locally produced dates are considered premium quality. The date season in the UAE is a festive time, enriching festivals and auctions, while the markets for fruits and vegetables experience significant economic activity that traders and vendors eagerly anticipate each year. For buyers and consumers, including citizens and expatriates, this is an excellent opportunity to taste a delightful array of date varieties.
