Insights from The Lob’s Co-Founder on Building Community, Navigating Poor Advice, and the Significance of Pursuing Your Passion

Welcome to a weekly feature where we connect with remarkable entrepreneurs and business leaders from the UAE and around the world. We explore their career journeys, daily habits, advice for newcomers, and challenges faced along the way.

This week, we shine a spotlight on Deepti Rupaney Taimni, the co-founder of The Lob, an innovative padel and wellness facility set to open on April 19 in Al Quoz 3, Dubai. The Lob is a multifaceted wellness hub featuring six high-end indoor padel courts, two versatile wellness studios—including a reformer Pilates space—an infrared sauna, and a café, all designed with a stylish Bali-meets-Tulum vibe.

Deepti shares her vision behind The Lob, her influences, and how the establishment stands out in Dubai’s wellness landscape.

What was your childhood aspiration?

I have always been intrigued by art and design. My mother significantly influenced this passion, ensuring I explored diverse artistic forms from an early age while encouraging my creativity.

I now feel grateful to be pursuing my passion. Design and aesthetics are intrinsic to my identity. Once you embrace design, your perception shifts; you begin to view the world differently across various fields like branding, architecture, fashion, and interiors.

What brought you to Dubai?

Dubai did not just bring me here; it shaped me. I proudly identify as a genuine Dubai native, having spent my entire life in this extraordinary city. It feels like home in every regard, and I believe there is no other place quite like it.

What motivated you to establish The Lob?

The inception of The Lob stemmed from my desire to create something centered on wellness. As a fitness enthusiast and former tennis player, movement has always been a significant aspect of my life. While living in Spain, I observed how padel transformed into a cultural phenomenon, drawing people away from their homes and into social play.

The aim was to create a space that embodied this lively spirit—not just focusing on physical activity but embracing a holistic wellness approach. I believe authentic wellness is achieved through the harmony of body and mind.

This philosophy extends to The Lob’s offerings, including a clean-eating café free from refined sugars and seed oils, intended to nourish visitors from within. It’s an environment where fitness, nutrition, and mental clarity thrive together, allowing sports to facilitate stronger bodies, clearer minds, and a more profound sense of community.

Can you elaborate on the concept?

The vision for The Lob was to create an indoor playing atmosphere that feels like outdoor play while being comfortably shielded from the climate. As a designer, I drew inspiration from the serene beauty of Tulum and Bali— both of which harmoniously blend nature with spirit. The design uses organic materials, vibrant landscaping, and tasteful references to Roth Architecture, while remaining modern, chic, and sporty.

What does your typical day entail?

My mornings start early—before the city awakens. I begin with warm water mixed with salt and lemon, followed by copper-infused water to keep my energy aligned.

Movement is crucial for me, whether it’s a gym session or intense cardio; I dedicate myself to training six days a week. This routine is paramount for resetting and mentally preparing for the day ahead.

Evenings are reserved for winding down. I focus on meaningful moments with my children and aim for an early night for adequate rest. I lean towards healthy, home-cooked meals and value weekends for reconnecting with loved ones over good conversations and positive energy.

What guidance would you offer someone looking to follow a similar path?

Have lofty dreams and stay committed. Passion is a promise you must uphold to yourself, but it is discipline and clear boundaries that keep it thriving. The journey to establishing The Lob took over two years, presenting genuine challenges and moments that tested my resolve—but persistence was key.

Just don’t give up. That’s where the real magic is.

What’s the worst advice you have ever received?

Follow what everyone else is doing.

What do you hope people take away after visiting The Lob?

At The Lob, we aim to foster more than just a fitness club—we are cultivating a community. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone, regardless of their level, feels recognized, motivated, and energized. Whether you come for an exciting padel match, a peaceful holistic experience, or nutritious food, The Lob is crafted to connect with you where you are. It’s a venue where individuals can come as they are and leave with a lighter heart, stronger body, and a smile.
