A Co-Founder of The Lob Discusses Community Building, Overcoming Bad Advice, and the Importance of Pursuing One’s Passion

Welcome to the weekly feature, ‘How I Got My Job as…’ where we engage with remarkable entrepreneurs and businesswomen from the UAE and around the world, exploring the journeys that have led them to their current roles, their daily practices, the guidance they would offer newcomers, and the obstacles they’ve faced along the way.

This week, we had a conversation with Deepti Rupaney Taimni, the co-founder of The Lob, an innovative padel and wellness facility set to launch on Saturday, April 19, in Al Quoz 3, Dubai. The Lob features an array of amenities including six top-tier indoor padel courts, two versatile wellness studios—one dedicated to reformer Pilates, an infrared sauna, and a café. The entire space boasts an aesthetic that merges the vibes of Bali and Tulum.

Here, Deepti shares insights about her concept, her personal motivations, and how The Lob stands out in Dubai’s wellness industry.

What were your childhood aspirations?

I have always had a passion for art and design. My mother was instrumental in nurturing my interest by exposing me to various artistic mediums from a young age, fostering creativity in every possible form.

Today, I feel fortunate to be part of the design world. Aesthetics are deeply woven into my identity. I believe that once you become a designer, your perception of the world changes—you start to appreciate everything through a creative lens, whether it’s branding, architecture, fashion, or interior design.

What led you to Dubai?

Dubai is more than just a place I moved to; it has shaped my identity. I proudly identify as a true Dubai native, having been born and raised in this amazing city. To me, it’s home in every sense, and I believe there’s no other city like it.

What motivated you to establish The Lob?

The conception of The Lob stemmed from my desire to create something centered around wellness. As someone who is passionate about fitness and was a former tennis player, being active has always been integral to my life. My time in Spain revealed to me how padel had transformed, inviting individuals out of their homes and onto the courts. It has evolved into a cultural phenomenon, a social activity, and a lifestyle choice.

I aimed to craft a space embodying this ethos—one that extends beyond mere physical exercise to embrace a comprehensive approach to wellness. For me, true wellness is the harmony of body and mind.

This vision is what drives The Lob, which includes a clean-eating café focused on nourishment without refined sugars and seed oils. It’s a place where fitness, nutrition, and mental well-being intersect—turning sport into a pathway to healthier bodies, sharper minds, and a stronger sense of community.

Can you describe your concept in more detail?

The Lob was envisioned as a venue that simulates the experience of playing outdoors, all while providing the comfort of being indoors, catering to the region’s climate.

As a designer, I drew inspiration from Tulum and Bali—locations that seamlessly integrate nature with a soulful ambiance. The design incorporates natural materials, vibrant landscaping, and subtle references to Roth Architecture, all while maintaining a contemporary, stylish, and athletic feel.

What does your daily routine look like?

I typically start my day early, before the city awakens. My morning routine involves drinking warm water with salt and lemon, followed by copper-infused water to promote energy and alignment.

Physical activity is a must—whether it’s a gym session or an intense cardio workout, I train six days a week. This is my time to refresh, recharge, and prepare with clarity and vigor for the day ahead.

Evenings are a time for relaxation. I connect with my children, sharing precious moments, and I aim to wind down early for a good night’s sleep. I prioritize healthy, home-cooked meals and use weekends to nurture meaningful relationships, whether that’s enjoying family time or reconnecting with friends amidst good conversations and uplifting energy.

What guidance would you offer those aspiring to follow your path?

Envision big goals and stay committed. Passion is the most crucial commitment you can make to yourself, but maintenance through discipline and healthy boundaries is what keeps that passion alive. The creation of The Lob took over two years and was filled with real challenges that tested my resolve—I persevered through it all.

Just remember, don’t give up. That’s where the real growth happens.

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?

Follow the crowd.

What lasting impression do you hope visitors will have from their experience at The Lob?

At The Lob, we are not just establishing a facility—we are fostering a community. It’s a place where individuals at every level feel acknowledged, encouraged, and invigorated. Whether you come for a competitive padel match, a moment of holistic healing, or revitalizing nutrition, The Lob is designed to cater to your unique needs. It’s a setting where you are welcomed as you are and leave feeling uplifted, with a stronger body and a smile.
