President Donald Trump has issued an order to expand the detention and deportation efforts of immigrants across the United States, amidst widespread protests in major American cities against his policies.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump urged federal agencies to do “everything within their power” to execute what he termed the “largest mass deportation program in history,” specifically naming Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York as primary targets.
Since June 6, massive protests have erupted in several of these cities in response to raids aimed at undocumented immigrants, highlighting the rising tension between federal authorities and local governments.
Trump directed “the entire administration” to deploy all possible resources to support this initiative, reiterating his determination to prevent “anyone who undermines the internal peace of the United States” from entering the country.
He communicated directly with agencies like the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), stating: “You have my full support… Go out there and get the job done!”
This escalation followed a new wave of protests led by the “No Kings” movement in the U.S., which organized demonstrations from Los Angeles to New York, coinciding with a military parade in Washington, D.C. celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, on Trump’s 79th birthday.
A shooting incident occurred in Salt Lake City, Utah, during one of the “No Kings” marches, resulting in one fatality.
Trump has instructed authorities to focus on what are known as “sanctuary cities,” which refuse to fully cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, asserting that they are hotbeds of conflict between federal and state laws.
Local officials in these cities have defended their legal rights to protect undocumented immigrants against increasing federal enforcement actions.
This new directive represents a direct fulfillment of Trump’s campaign promises, wherein he vowed to carry out “the largest deportation operation of criminals in the history of America.”
The decision comes just a day after the Trump administration issued instructions to reduce immigration enforcement raids in farms, hotels, restaurants, and meatpacking facilities.
