Former President Donald Trump has initiated a legal action seeking $15 billion in damages from The New York Times, alleging defamation and slander, and labeling the publication a “mouthpiece” for the Democratic Party.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, Trump accused the paper of disseminating falsehoods about him, his family, and his ventures, as well as the “America First” movement. He asserted that their reporting practices exemplify a long-standing pattern of distortion and defamation.
He contended that The New York Times’ endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on its front page represents the largest illegal contribution to an election campaign ever.
Trump referenced what he claimed to be “successful” legal encounters with ABC News and broadcaster George Stephanopoulos, along with Paramount over a “60 Minutes” interview featuring former Vice President Harris, noting that these cases concluded with “record-setting” settlements, according to his statements.
