The conflict in Ukraine has seen new developments as Kyiv launched extensive drone attacks across various regions in Russia, causing damage to oil facilities, while Russian authorities managed to control a fire near the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
Ukraine has once again executed large-scale drone strikes on Russian territories, leading to explosions at oil processing sites, as reported on social media platforms.
Officials in the affected regions of Samara and Ryazan confirmed the drone attacks, noting that debris from intercepted drones targeted industrial sites, though there have been no official reports of damage or injuries.
A video circulating on social media (whose authenticity has not been verified) depicted a massive explosion at an oil facility near the city of Samara, located along the Volga River.
In response to the drone threats, authorities in Samara suspended flights at the local airport. In Ryazan, another oil facility appears to have been struck. Governor Pavel Malikov confirmed the attack but declined to provide further details, urging the public not to share images.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that air defenses intercepted or destroyed 112 drones across eight Russian regions and Crimea.
The acting governor of Russia’s Rostov region, Yuri Sliusar, reported that a drone attack in the border area with Ukraine resulted in one fatality.
Farther from the front lines, a woman was killed, and two others injured in a drone strike on a company in the Penza region, according to regional governor Oleg Melnichenko.
In the Samara area, debris from a downed drone sparked a fire that claimed the life of an elderly resident, as reported by regional governor Vyacheslav Fedorychev.
The Ukrainian Air Force indicated that Russia had launched 53 drones and decoys targeting Ukraine overnight, noting that air defenses managed to shoot down or jam 45 of those drones, while 11 individuals were injured during a nighttime drone assault in the Kharkiv region.
Fire Containment
The Russian administration of the Zaporizhia power plant announced yesterday that a fire which erupted near the nuclear facility following Ukrainian shelling had been contained.
The plant management mentioned in a Telegram post that a civilian had died in the shelling; however, no plant staff or emergency responders were harmed. They reported that radiation levels remain within normal limits and the situation is under control.
Furthermore, the Russian Defense Ministry noted that its forces took control of the village of Oleksandro Kalyniv in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine yesterday.
No Threat
In response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of deploying two nuclear submarines near Russia, politicians and experts close to the Kremlin downplayed the significance of the move.
Former Air Force General and current Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Leonid Ivlev stated that the submarines do not pose a serious threat, emphasizing that Russia is fully aware of such American military maneuvers.
Another deputy, Viktor Vodolatsky, echoed this sentiment, labeling attempts to intimidate Russia as futile, while highlighting the country’s substantial fleet of nuclear submarines.
