Allies of Ukraine, forming a group known as the “Alliance of Willing,” are set to discuss security guarantees for Kyiv during talks in Paris next Thursday, led by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Macron stated on the social media platform “X” on Monday, following discussions with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, “We will work with our partners in collaboration with NATO to establish robust security guarantees for Ukraine. These guarantees are essential for making reliable progress towards peace.”
He also mentioned that the allies would assess Russia’s position, which continues its aggressive warfare and rejects peace.
The Paris meeting follows last month’s Ukraine summit held at the White House. On Friday, Macron indicated that discussions would also include the potential deployment of ground forces in Ukraine to help maintain peace.
Additionally, the alliance plans to consider imposing new sanctions on Russia in response to its unwillingness to facilitate a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Alliance of Willing comprises approximately 30 nations, many of which are NATO members, along with Australia and Japan. It is anticipated that some countries will send delegations to Paris for the discussions while others will participate via video conference.
