Ukraine Strikes Five Russian Sites Using the “Trojan Horse” Tactic

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Ukraine launched drone attacks on military airports across five regions on Sunday, resulting in several aircraft catching fire.

The assaults occurred in the regions of Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur. The ministry stated that air defenses intercepted the attacks in all areas except for two: Murmansk and Irkutsk.

According to the ministry, “In the regions of Murmansk and Irkutsk, drones launched from a nearby area caused fires in several aircraft.”

The fires were extinguished, and there were no reports of injuries. The ministry indicated that some individuals were taken into custody.

Media reports highlight that Ukraine employed an innovative strategy for the attack, reminiscent of the “Trojan Horse” approach, whereby the assaults were executed from within Russia. Drones, concealed within civilian trucks, emerged on Russian territory before striking pre-determined targets, complicating the detection efforts of Russian defenses. Consequently, neither the air force nor radar systems were able to identify these drones due to their launch from within Russia itself.

Historically, the Trojan Horse legend represents a clever military tactic devised by the Greeks to end the decade-long siege of Troy. The Greeks constructed a massive wooden horse, concealing soldiers inside, and pretended to retreat. The Trojans, deceived, brought the horse into the city. At night, the Greek soldiers emerged and opened the gates for the rest of the army, allowing them to seize control of Troy.
