Visiting Professor Hamid Al Shamsi at Harvard University and Visiting Scientist at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Professor Hameed bin Harmal Al-Shamsi, President of the Emirates Oncology Association and CEO of Burjeel Cancer Institute, has been awarded the title of “Visiting Professor” at Harvard University in the United States, as well as the title of “Visiting Scientist” at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, one of the world’s leading cancer treatment centers. This achievement marks a historic medical and academic milestone for the first time for an Emirati and Gulf doctor.

This accomplishment is the culmination of a rich academic and scientific career spanning over 20 years, during which Professor Al-Shamsi has made significant contributions to the field of cancer treatment and care for cancer patients in the Emirates and the region. It also represents a recognition of Emirati competencies, as Professor Hameed is the first Emirati and Gulf doctor to receive these prestigious academic and scientific titles.

Professor Al-Shamsi’s scientific achievements include 9 specialized medical academic certificates from Ireland, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and 160 scientific research papers, as well as 4 specialized books on oncology and cancer recently published, including the first book on cancer in the Arab world that has sold over half a million copies as an electronic release.

He has also contributed to the development of the research sector by authoring and supervising numerous medical research projects in the field of cancer locally and regionally, including the discovery of a new type of colon cancer in 2016. In terms of health education, he is one of the leading doctors in the Gulf region in raising awareness about cancer.

Professor Hameed bin Harmal Al-Shamsi emphasized that this global recognition reflects the ambitious vision of the UAE in investing in its human resources and is an extension of the approach of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in empowering the country’s citizens and developing the healthcare sector. He stated that this title will enhance future cooperation between medical institutions in the Gulf and Harvard University and Dana-Farber Institute, strengthening the UAE’s position in international academic and medical forums.
