Warning Against Engaging with Unknown Source Messages and Calls

The Cybersecurity Council of the UAE Government and the Abu Dhabi Police have underscored the importance of exercising caution when dealing with messages or calls from unknown sources, as these may lead to phishing and cyber fraud.

The Council highlighted that the rapid pace of technological advancement has resulted in an increase in cyberattacks and online fraud, which have become emerging challenges for individuals and communities, especially given their varied forms and methods, the evolution of digital tools, and the growing reliance on the internet in daily life.

Cyber fraud is no longer confined to traditional methods; it now exploits online services, smart applications, and digital networks to ensnare victims in ways that are often difficult to detect until after the crime has occurred.

The introduction of artificial intelligence tools into the cybersecurity field has further complicated the fight against these crimes. Addressing them requires a collaborative effort between individuals and organizations, as well as a heightened awareness within the community to keep pace with the rapid evolution of cybercrime.

Furthermore, the Abu Dhabi Police have warned community members about the ongoing attempts at cyber fraud and the evolving tactics that aim to lure victims via suspicious links or fraudulent advertisements found on search engines, fake job postings, or real estate scams. They emphasized the importance of using approved applications for making purchases or requesting services.

It was noted that some scammers take advantage of low-priced promotional ads on search engines to trap victims and steal their personal or financial information through fake websites that appear to be associated with reputable organizations or well-known companies.

The Council urged individuals to verify the authenticity of web links and to refrain from sharing banking or personal information with untrustworthy sources.

It was reiterated that cyber fraud attacks target individuals, businesses, and even large institutions, with the protection and tracking methods varying among individuals, organizations, and nations according to the effectiveness of the employed mechanisms and the level of awareness and training among personnel and teams.
