U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that the United States has imposed sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories. These measures are in response to her efforts to encourage the International Criminal Court to take action against American and Israeli officials, as well as companies and executives.
Rubio stated in a post on X that Albanese’s political and economic campaign against the U.S. and Israel will no longer be tolerated.
Albanese, an Italian citizen, is known for her sharp criticism of Israel, accusing its military of committing genocide in Gaza.
This recent escalation from Washington follows the release of a new report by Albanese titled “From Occupation Economy to Genocidal Economy,” in which she accuses major American and international companies of “obvious complicity.
