White House: Trump Won’t Unilaterally Lower Tariffs on China

The White House announced on Friday that President Donald Trump will not unilaterally reduce tariffs on Chinese goods without concessions from China. This statement came just hours after Trump suggested the possibility of lowering current tariffs from 145% to 80% as both parties prepare for talks in Switzerland.

White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt informed reporters, “That’s the figure the president mentioned, and we will see what unfolds early next week.
