Following a stabbing incident involving Iris Stalzer, the mayor of Herdicke, Germany, authorities are investigating the possibility that her daughter may be responsible for the attack.
According to officials in Hagen, the 57-year-old Stalzer, a legal professional, herself identified her 17-year-old daughter as the assailant.
After the event, the public prosecutor announced that the daughter, who is under suspicion, would not be placed in pre-trial detention due to insufficient legal grounds, as stated by Bernd Halderon, the prosecutor in Hagen.
He further mentioned that based on the current legal assessment, the incident is likely to be classified as causing serious bodily harm, adding that further actions will be taken in accordance with how similar cases have been handled.
Halderon emphasized the importance of continued support for the family from official channels.
Stalzer, a member of the Social Democratic Party, was attacked in her home, resulting in life-threatening injuries.
Ursula Schonberg, the police chief in Hagen, confirmed that the newly elected mayor is now out of danger and showing continuous improvement in her condition.
