A recent survey conducted by Kyodo News indicates that approximately 81% of respondents feel “more concern than hope” regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s second term, which began in January. This sentiment is partially driven by apprehensions over the impact of imposed tariffs.
When asked about the sources of their concerns, the public opinion poll on international relations, conducted between March and April, revealed that 42% of participants cited the threat to free trade as a primary factor, while 41% referenced Trump’s unpredictable actions.
In contrast, among the 17% of individuals who expressed “more optimism than concern,” 57% acknowledged that Trump demonstrates “leadership,” and 33% praised his efforts to counter China’s growing dominance.
