«Witex» Unites Global Efforts to Combat Water Scarcity and Sustainability Challenges

Under the esteemed guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and with the support of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority will host the 27th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) from September 30 to October 2, 2025, at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

WETEX brings together prominent local and international water companies to showcase the latest advancements in water production and purification technologies, as well as smart network management. The event continues to play a crucial role as a global platform for developing sustainable water solutions and addressing water scarcity challenges.

WETEX is recognized as the largest event of its kind in the region and one of the leading global exhibitions in energy, water, clean and renewable energy, green development, sustainability, decarbonization, green mobility, hydrogen, cybersecurity, digitization, sustainable cities, green buildings, artificial intelligence, smart grids, and other relevant sectors.

Knowledge Exchange

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Founder of WETEX, stated:

“The exhibition gathers innovators, companies, investors, and decision-makers from around the globe to share expertise, knowledge, and the latest developments while offering long-term solutions that contribute to bridging the growing gap between water demand and available resources. The exhibition encourages investment in innovative water management solutions and promotes the use of technology and innovation to secure a water-sustainable future.”

He added: “As water is a fundamental human need, the exhibition aims to stimulate access to reliable and safe water resources for all, thereby contributing to the development of communities and supporting the sustainability of essential sectors such as health, education, economy, and food security.”

WETEX serves as a global platform that fosters partnerships and cooperation aimed at keeping pace with the increasing water demand driven by rapid population growth, urban expansion, and the rising water needs of agriculture, industry, and energy sectors.

A report from UNICEF indicates that 4 billion people, or nearly two-thirds of the world’s population, experience severe water scarcity for at least one month each year.

UNICEF projects that by 2040, one in four children worldwide will live in areas facing severe water scarcity. In the Arab world, 13 countries are suffering from acute water shortages, with the average per capita freshwater availability for Arab individuals falling below 800 cubic meters per year.

According to the United Nations, around 40% of the global population could face severe water scarcity risks by 2040, potentially leading to the displacement of up to 700 million people due to severe water shortages by 2030.

Strong Commitment

Engineer Youssef Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, expressed: “Our long-standing partnership with WETEX exemplifies our unwavering commitment to supporting the UAE’s agenda in the fields of sustainability and innovation. As a strategic partner, we take pride in contributing to this pivotal event that brings together a select group of global experts to showcase visionary insights into the energy and water sectors.”

Ahmed Ali Al Shamsi, CEO of Emirates Water and Electricity Company, stated: “We are pleased to participate in the Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) as a strategic sponsor to highlight the role of Emirates Water and Electricity in shaping the future of the water and energy sector in the UAE.”

Within the International Pavilion of France at the exhibition, AIR WATER ACTIVITY will showcase its solutions for producing drinking water from atmospheric moisture, which stand out for their energy efficiency. Meanwhile, AQUASPOT will introduce its patented technology for providing chemical-free shower water, allowing for a reduction of up to 90% in water consumption.

Hong Seong-Kwan, Chairman of the Korean Water Partnership, expressed: “We wish great success for WETEX 2025, and we are excited to participate this year through the Korean Pavilion organized by K-water, K-ECO (Korean Water Partnership), and KOAMI, featuring 14 leading Korean companies showcasing the latest technologies in the water sector.”
