Agha Shines with Brilliant Century in Pakistan’s Nail-Biting Victory over Sri Lanka

In a thrilling opening match of the ODI series, Pakistan secured a narrow six-run victory over Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi, largely thanks to a stellar performance by Salman Agha. His unbeaten century played a crucial role in setting a competitive target for the visiting team.

Agha’s impressive knock of 105 runs off 87 deliveries helped Pakistan reach a total of 299 for five in their allotted 50 overs. Hussain Talat contributed significantly with a score of 63, ensuring a solid partnership that bolstered the team’s innings.

Sri Lanka’s chase was characterized by steady contributions, with leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga stepping up both with bat and ball. He scored 59 runs off 52 balls, keeping his side in contention despite regular dismissals from the other end. Ultimately, Sri Lanka managed 293 for nine, falling just short of the target.

Haris Rauf was instrumental with the ball for Pakistan, claiming four wickets and proving to be a critical factor in his team’s success. Following the match, Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi praised the performances of Agha and Talat, acknowledging the challenge posed by early wicket losses and the importance of reaching the 299-run mark.

Agha reflected on his performance, emphasizing the need to focus on the present and capitalize on each ball. The partnership with Talat was a key aspect of their innings, highlighting effective running between the wickets as a significant contributor to their success.

The series continues in Rawalpindi, with the next two matches scheduled for November 15 and 19. This first match sets a promising tone for what could be an exciting series ahead.

Pakistan: 299 for 5 (Agha 105, Talat 63, Nawaz 36; Hasaranga 3-54)
Sri Lanka: 293 for 9 (Hasaranga 59, Samarawickrama 39, Mishara 38; Rauf 4-61)
