The city of Ahmedabad in India has officially been selected as the host for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games. This decision was made during the Commonwealth Sport membership’s approval at the 2025 General Assembly held in Glasgow.
Ahmedabad, also known as Amdavad, is situated in the western state of Gujarat. The bid for hosting the Games was put forward after a thorough evaluation process, which included competition from Abuja, Nigeria. Ultimately, Ahmedabad was recommended as the chosen host in October.
The upcoming Games will mark a significant milestone, celebrating 100 years since the inaugural Commonwealth Games took place in Hamilton, Canada. Although Canada was considered a potential contender, it ultimately chose not to submit a bid.
India previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010, with the event taking place in Delhi. Notably, next year’s edition will be hosted in Glasgow, which faces a scaled-back version of the Games after Victoria, Australia, withdrew due to rising costs.
