Al Baidhaei Shines as Mullen Impresses and Al Mheiri Takes Control

Jebel Ali Racecourse hosted an exciting day of racing this Saturday, highlighted by Mashkoor’s impressive victory in the Zayed & Rashid Initiative Cup. This event stood out as a significant success for emerging trainer Marwan Al Baidhaei and saw seasoned jockey Richard Mullen achieve a notable treble.

Mullen steered Mashkoor to a determined win, marking the horse’s third career victory and second at Jebel Ali. The performance saw Mashkoor fend off a late challenge from War Hawk, ridden by Andrew Slattery. Mount Kosciuszko finished in third place, adding to the competitiveness of the race.

For Al Baidhaei, this victory is an essential milestone, especially following his recognition with the ERA Najm Award earlier this year for his commitment to training and sportsmanship. He expressed satisfaction with Mashkoor’s performance, noting the horse’s fitness and competitiveness, particularly in such a challenging field. Al Baidhaei highlighted Mashkoor’s fighting spirit as integral to the win, describing the strategy that led to their success.

Richard Mullen enjoyed a triumphant return to form, showcasing his skills with three wins. His two victories for champion trainer Musabbeh Al Mheiri reaffirmed his reputation as a reliable freelance jockey in the UAE racing scene. Al Mheiri’s strong performance this season included a double win that placed him at the top of the trainer standings and marked his earnings surpassing Dh 1 million.

One highlight for Al Mheiri was the victory of Duke Of Immatin in The 54th Stakes for 2-year-olds. This horse made a successful showing in his second race, progressing from his debut at Meydan. Another horse, The Ice Phoenix, secured a win in The Ghaf Tree Stakes, continuing to demonstrate significant improvement under Al Mheiri’s care.

Al Mheiri expressed his contentment with the progress of both horses, indicating their potential for further development during the season. He emphasized that the team was excited about what lay ahead, reinforcing their commitment to their training efforts.

Saturday’s events at Jebel Ali encapsulated the thriving atmosphere of UAE racing, characterized by an emerging trainer’s success, a seasoned champion consolidating his status, and a veteran jockey reclaiming his prowess with an outstanding performance. The day stood as a testament to the vibrant progression of horse racing in the region.

As the season unfolds, trainer standings reveal Musabbeh Al Mheiri leading with ten wins and seven second-place finishes. He is followed by Michael Costa and Ibrahim Al Hadhrami, both maintaining strong positions as they strive for further success in the upcoming races.
