YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia has recounted a challenging period in his life, revisiting the controversy that erupted around “India’s Got Latent” last year. He described this phase as a “kaand,” highlighting the limited support he received, with actor John Abraham being one of the few who reached out to him during this tumultuous time.
In a recent vlog featuring filmmaker Farah Khan, Ranveer reflected on the episode and its aftermath. He referred to the controversy repeatedly as a “kaand,” explaining its profound impact on his career. Ranveer lamented the suspension of his podcast, stating, “I just pray from God to just return me my work. I just wanted opportunity to work because we were not even able to shoot.”
Farah encouraged him to learn from failures and to stay focused on his work. She emphasized the importance of resilience, urging him to remain grounded. Ranveer echoed similar sentiments, recalling how John Abraham personally called him to offer support. He noted that he received calls from several other public figures, including Sonu Nigam and Hardik Pandya, during the crisis. Although he acknowledged the difficulties of the past, he expressed a desire for personal growth and forgiveness, both towards others and himself.
The controversy itself unfolded in February when Ranveer, along with fellow YouTubers Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija, appeared on Samay Raina’s panel for “India’s Got Latent.” Ranveer’s comments regarding parents and sex stirred significant backlash, leading to multiple FIRs against him and his co-hosts. Critics accused them of promoting obscenity through sexually explicit discussions accessible to a wide audience, resulting in a storm of negative attention after Ranveer’s controversial remarks.
Following the uproar, Ranveer faced restrictions on uploading new content to his channel. However, by March, he received permission from the Supreme Court to return to his podcast, “The Ranveer Show.” In an apology video shared on X, he acknowledged that his comments were inappropriate and not humorous. In a further act of contrition, he submitted a formal written apology to the National Commission for Women for his offensive remarks made during the show.
