The Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship is poised to attract top-tier talent to the Royal Golf Club from January 29 to February 1. This prestigious tournament, part of the DP World Tour and held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, boasts a prize purse of $2.75 million.
Defending champion Laurie Canter headlines a competitive field that includes notable players such as Dylan Frittelli, Major champions Pádraig Harrington, Patrick Reed—fresh off a win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic—and Sergio Garcia. Each golfer brings a wealth of experience and international acclaim to this year’s event.
Frittelli, who won the tournament in 2024, expressed enthusiasm about returning to Bahrain. He fondly recalls his previous experiences on the golf course and the surrounding region. “I love it,” he stated, mentioning that the beautiful scenery and vibrant atmosphere enhance his experience every time he visits.
Jayden Schaper, leading the Race to Dubai Rankings, also anticipates his time in Bahrain. Having competed in the tournament for two years, Schaper appreciates the unique challenges the course presents. He noted, “The weather conditions are always tougher when you get out there,” indicating a respect for the course’s character and complexity.
Germany’s Marcel Siem, a seasoned six-time DP World Tour winner, is equally excited about this leg of the Middle East tour. He finds value in the ease of travel during this stretch and looks forward to the distinctive golfing experience Bahrain provides. “It’s a risk and reward golf course, a little bit, which suits me,” he remarked, reiterating his eagerness to compete again.
The tournament will also feature other talented players such as Spain’s Nacho Elvira, who recently won the Dubai Invitational, and France’s Julien Guerrier. Rising stars like Martin Couvra, the 2025 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year, and Spain’s Ángel Hidalgo are set to showcase their skills on this prominent stage. Additionally, three local golfers—Ahmed Alzayed, Khalifa Almaraisi, and Ali Alkowari—will compete after qualifying through the national pathway, illustrating the growth of golf in Bahrain.
